Alasdair HunterAlasdair is an experienced freelance director working with new plays and classical texts on various scales in conventional and non-conventional settings. His work has been seen in UK theatres including the Tron Theatre, Traverse Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, and Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, as well as across the Midwest USA including Chicago and St Louis. He has directed 10 Shakespeare plays, and would like to direct more.
Directing Highlights include: DOCTOR FAUSTUS in original pronunciation – co-directed with Ben Crystal and Rob Gander – Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, Shakespeare’s Globe WHAT COUNTRY FRIENDS IS THIS? – Aberdeen Performing Arts #BRIEFCANDLE & #LIKETHELIGHTNING – Wilderness of Tigers – Site-specific guerilla Shakespeare productions in Glasgow HAMLET – as part of Bard in the Botanics THE TEMPEST – Stone Soup Shakespeare - Midwest tour He was Associate Director on Rachel O’Riordan’s production of The Seafarer (Perth Theatre / Lyric Belfast). Previous assisting includes: Twelfth Night (Perth Theatre dir. Rachel O’Riordan) Smalltown (Random Accomplice, dir. Johnny McKnight) Parent’s Evening (The Flea, NYC dir. Jim Simpson) The Wall (Borderline, dir. Gregory Thompson). Alasdair was President of Glasgow’s Queen Margaret Union in 2008/09 and a board member of Macrobert Arts Centre from 2009 to 2012. He made classical work under the Wilderness of Tigers label between 2007 and 2017. Alasdair is a Connections Director for the National Theatre, and has supported NT Connections companies linked with the Traverse Theatre, Lyric Belfast and Royal & Derngate. |
